Cheese On Toast

Cheese On ToastI’ve included this cheese on toast recipe because it’s a lovely snack, takes no time to cook and is full of goodness.  It’s a dish I’ve made in many different ways over the years – I’ve tried to make the perfect cheese on toast!  I used to toast both sides of the bread, but when I put the cheese on top (after toasting) and put the bread and cheese back under the grill, the bread that was already toasted would turn black!  So this is the way I make it now.

Prep time:
Total time:
Serves: 2
  • 4 slices of granary bread (with pumpkin seeds or other seeds if you can get hold of it)
  • Enough slices of strong cheddar cheese to cover the 4 slices of bread
  • 2 tomatoes - thinly sliced - do not use the end pieces
  • Worcester sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  1. Place the 4 slices of bread under the grill and grill the one side until nicely toasted.
  2. Once toasted, remove from the grill and turn over so that the un-toasted side is facing you.
  3. Place the sliced cheese on the slices of toast, making sure all of the bread is covered.
  4. Place under the grill and when slightly melted and bubbling remove the cheesy toast.
  5. Place the sliced tomatoes on top of the bubbling cheese and place back under the grill.
  6. When the cheese is bubbling and turning slightly brown remove from the grill.
  7. Pour a little Worcester sauce over the toasted cheese and tomatoes and season with salt and pepper.
